Sometimes I might find things that are just useful to others so I post their link or their pictures and give credit to them.Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.comBlogger60125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-20379665404500038602014-03-18T06:10:00.001-04:002014-03-24T06:43:08.496-04:00DYI FAUX FARM EGGS<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> I seen on one of my facebook groups that Wal-mart had some faux eggs that came in little egg cartons with no seems and are dyeable. Well all you have to do is press your ALT key on your keyboard and press the numbers 0169 on your keypad and you will get this<span style="font-size: large;"> <b>©</b></span>. If you don't have the keypad which some laptops don't have one go to<span style="color: #990000;"> <a href="http://fsymbols.com/keyboard/windows/alt-codes/laptop/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #990000;">Fsymbol</span></a> </span>they show you how to do this without the keypad.<br />I wanted to protect my images from being copied so I just looked it up and thought I would share it with every one.<br />There is a total of 256 Alt codes to use with the numbers 0-255, some are functions for the computer. You can search the internet and find quite a few sites that have the codes for symbols. Here is one site<span style="color: #20124d;"> </span><a href="http://cyberhobo.com/?page_id=935" target="_blank"><span style="color: #990000;">CyberHobo</span></a> that I came across that has symbols.<br /><span style="font-size: large;"><b>example from their site: </b></span><br /><ul style="background-color: white; Depending on the item. For this project the glue mixed with paint works just as good plus serves two purposes.</span><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: x-small;">Prepare your grunge mix by mixing together the first six ingredients in a bowl or whatever you would like. Set aside.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Then add just a bit of water to the Elmer's glue just to make a little thinner but not too runny. Adding the brown paint covers the color of base item, I like it that way much better. Brown paint is not need if you like some of the base color to show through.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Then spoon the grunge mix onto the item.</span><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">After dry i sprayed with sealant. you can also sprinkle little extra cinnamon or a bit more grunge mix. If you find some spots you would like extra on.</span><br /><span style="font-size: x-small;">I recommend that If you do add any extra oatmeal grunge mix to spray again. With just more cinnamon you wouldn't need to spray again.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Some of the mixture still seems to want to fall off. I owe Lindsay from <a href="http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">The Frugal Crafter</a> a big thank you for this idea. Be sure to check out her blog as she has a lot of wonderful ideas. I watched her video tutorial, scroll down to watch it, on ribbon flip flops yesterday and decided right away to get out the ribbon and my flip flops and get to work. <b>Revamping my flip flops</b> <b>with ribbon</b> in no time at all. Using two coordinating ribbons and some gems and hot glue. I did do it a little different but basically the same. She had you take the end of the ribbon through the bottom and I only went to where the strap meets the part where your foot goes. I didn't watch the video all the way til this morning. The Frugal Crafter also suggested gorilla glue but I didn't have any so hopefully my hot glue holds up. <br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"></div><br /><div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: center; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;"><div style="margin: 0px;"> This is what I came up with, not too bad for first ones</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nlb--IlQasQ/UcGA8PKQUdI/AAAAAAAAKpE/UQ0CTQ4l2rM/s1600/flipflog1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nlb--IlQasQ/UcGA8PKQUdI/AAAAAAAAKpE/UQ0CTQ4l2rM/s1600/flipflog1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div><div style="margin: 0px;"><br /></div></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"> <iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="270" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lY_sVFuUWuU" width="480"></iframe></div><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe bordercolor="#000000" frameborder="0" height="200" hspace="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N7433.148119.BLOGGEREN/B7298893.3918;sz=200x200;ord=[timestamp]?;lid=41000613802463871;pid=57459;usg=AFHzDLtfm4Lm757uhXzWxRKcvS5VY6E3iw;adurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.mjtrim.com%252F7-8-double-face-satin-ribbon.html;pubid=621075;imgsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mjtrim.com%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct%2Fcache%2F1%2Fimage%2F9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95%2F5%2F7%2F57459-rust.jpg;width=200;height=200" vspace="0" width="200"></iframe><iframe bordercolor="#000000" frameborder="0" height="200" hspace="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N7433.148119.BLOGGEREN/B7298893.3916;sz=200x200;ord=[timestamp]?;lid=41000613802463871;pid=57452;usg=AFHzDLsFTaSz1HmbCgTbJUk8bpDqRSR7hQ;adurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.mjtrim.com%252F1-single-face-satin-ribbon.html;pubid=621075;imgsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mjtrim.com%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fproduct%2Fcache%2F1%2Fimage%2F9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95%2F5%2F7%2F57452-ltorchid.jpg;width=200;height=200" vspace="0" width="200"></iframe><br /></div>Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-89892901758775770132013-05-12T16:58:00.000-04:002013-08-04T16:21:36.846-04:00New Tradition-Kid's Hand print for Mother's DayThis grandmother is starting a<b> new tradition with the grand kids for their mommy's on Mother's Day</b>.<br /> I got the inspiration from Anna at <a href="http://mylifeandkids.com/" target="_blank">mylifeandkids</a> who was a special guest to post at<a href="http://modpodgerocksblog.com/" target="_blank"> Mod Podge Rocks</a>.<br />Anna's post was<br /><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://modpodgerocksblog.com/2012/05/mothers-day-handprint-canvases.html" target="_blank">Mothers day craft for kids: handprint canvases</a></span><span style="background-color: transparent;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent;"><span style="font-size: small;">She gives you all the direction for this project. I used most of her methods but personalized my way and used a wood frame instead of canvas.</span></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent;"><span style="font-size: small;">I made circles scrapbook paper using my fiskars circle punch for the name and star punch. Traced this lil man's hand on scrapbook paper. Painted my board. You really could you anything that the kids hand would fit on. I prearranged where I wanted everything placed. Once I figured it out I coated my board with Mod Podge then place everything in place. Making sure all edges were on good and pressing on everything to get any air bubbles out. Let dry then coated 2 more times with the podge. Then hung a wall hanger on back to hang it up.</span></span><br />Here is my version of our new tradition of kid's hand prints for every Mother's Day from here on out. Well at least until the kiddos have stopped growing. So that will be at least 16-18 more years.<br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9AUrl0wy-CE/UZAAlXKQObI/AAAAAAAAKd4/pvGPDdtsZ5s/s1600/dekmakingmothersday2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9AUrl0wy-CE/UZAAlXKQObI/AAAAAAAAKd4/pvGPDdtsZ5s/s1600/dekmakingmothersday2013.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">grandson helping make his mommy's gift</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GbTBlJMIIXI/UZAAl0Mdm2I/AAAAAAAAKeA/WxxzNfVuPog/s1600/mothersdayhandprint2013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GbTBlJMIIXI/UZAAl0Mdm2I/AAAAAAAAKeA/WxxzNfVuPog/s1600/mothersdayhandprint2013.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-22946376636773266452013-05-05T15:54:00.000-04:002013-12-21T05:49:42.303-05:00My Mod Podge Projects<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="background-color: white; color: #1e1a26; font-family: Inconsolata; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">Mod Podge is now one of my loves in crafting. You can visit it <a href="http://craftsbyamanda.com/2009/02/be-mine-valentine-wall-hanging.html" target="_blank">here</a> with a tutorial. I wanted to share with you the one I made.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ITRElUye5wk/URwcwR1HJkI/AAAAAAAAKY4/jw5Is2jiIHw/s1600/heart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ITRElUye5wk/URwcwR1HJkI/AAAAAAAAKY4/jw5Is2jiIHw/s1600/heart.jpg" height="320" width="261" /></a></div> It is so cute and was super easy to do. Can be made to any size you would like. Probably even easy enough for a kid craft. The be mine valentine only requires a few supplies. And it doesn't take long to put together either. I didn't however follow <a href="http://craftsbyamanda.com/2009/02/be-mine-valentine-wall-hanging.html" target="_blank">Crafts by Amanda</a> directions or supplies exactly. But for the most part I did. She has many other tutorials on her site.<br />Supplies I used were:<br />Kraft paper<br />craft paint <br />craft wire<br />glue gun and glue<br />buttons<br />burlap and scrap material<br />the filling I used some flat fiber fill stuff not quite sure what its called but believe it is kinda some sort of batting.<br />black sharpie and a spray sealant<br /><br /><br />Hope you find this <i><b>Be Mine Valentine</b></i> wall hanging as easy to make as I did.<br /><br /><br />Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0Mill Hall, PA 17751, USA41.1872046 -77.58486649999997640.8045761 -78.23031349999998 41.569833100000004 -76.939419499999971tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-44428304426390748602013-02-04T04:14:00.000-05:002013-08-04T16:21:36.820-04:00DYI Country/Rustic Wooden Spoons<b>Country/rustic</b> is my decorating style. I can't really afford to pay the price of the things I would like to have decorating my home. Or my kids home which they all love that style as well. So I'm always looking on the net or Pinterest looking for ideas to decorate our homes. Recently I seen a site for <b>wooden spoons</b> and had to try the technique they said about. I went to my uncles used store and he had some wooden spoons there for $.25 each and I picked up a few to do country/rustic style.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UrRLARoH8OE/UQ8BO0MS9II/AAAAAAAAKYI/13Glc_baNG4/s1600/woodenspoons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UrRLARoH8OE/UQ8BO0MS9II/AAAAAAAAKYI/13Glc_baNG4/s1600/woodenspoons.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a>Got the wooden spoons home and anxious to start a new project and I pulled my paints out in four different colors trying to stick to the country/rustic colors. Reddish, indigo blue, black and not sure of the color name but in the greens. Then I started painting away. After both sides were completely dry I took a rough piece of sandpaper and scuffed the edges a bit. Trying to think of how they would naturally get worn. Now my problem is I don't know what I want to put around them. Or what to do with them. Tried tying a bit a fabric around them, also tried twine. Seen somewhere that they were also just place in a mason jar or hung on wall. Guess I'll figure it out.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><b></b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-blo7EOEvK28/UQ9sFDQVyrI/AAAAAAAAKYc/bn7zOf6PVm4/s1600/woodenspoons2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-blo7EOEvK28/UQ9sFDQVyrI/AAAAAAAAKYc/bn7zOf6PVm4/s1600/woodenspoons2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /><b></b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">One of the simply and least expensive crafts I've done. She has s'mores parties and thought this sign would be great as a decoration. She hasn't seen it yet but hope she loves it.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Blh2f2mMCKY/UPx8-YLNeTI/AAAAAAAAKXs/m7KEzbxj2co/s1600/smoressign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Blh2f2mMCKY/UPx8-YLNeTI/AAAAAAAAKXs/m7KEzbxj2co/s1600/smoressign.jpg" height="155" width="400" /></a></div><br />Crafting Supplies Needed for this <i><b>Burlap S'mores Banner</b></i> that was pretty easy to do.<br />Burlap<br />Lace<br />Stencils<br />Paint<br />Twine<br />Stitch Witchery<br /><br />Sorry no pictures as I went along, I wasn't sure how it was gonna turn out. I showed my aunt and she suggested that I put it on here with a tutorial. <br />So here is what I did.<br />Grabbed some burlap and laid my stencils spelling<i> s'mores</i> out on it to determine how big i needed to make the burlap pieces. Mine measured 5x7, I wanted extra on it to allow for folding over the twine. I cut my burlap. Then laid my stencil in place and dabbed the paint on the burlap. Let dry surprisingly it dried pretty quick so I was able to move on to the next steps fairly quick.<br />Take the lace and twine. Measure the lace according to the width of the burlap.<br />Then take the stitch witchery and lay it on the edge of the burlap then place half of the lace on top of the that allowing the other half of the lace to hang over the top edge. <br />Place damp rag on the lace and iron according to stitch witchery instructions. You want to make sure you leave this extra overhang to add the twine. <br />Next take the twine, (I did not cut my twine yet because I wasn't sure how much I was gonna need. But you could figure it out a head of time, I just didn't.), and lay it on your lace and right at the edge of the burlap. Place your stitch witchery same as you did to the other side.<br />Fold down the lace make sure that the twine is at the edge and not where the witchery will adhere to it. Do this process to all your burlap pieces. <br />I left about a foot of twine at each end and left a loop for hanging.<br />Make your pieces any size or length you wish. Determine by the size of your stencil and the look you are going for.<br />You could even cut into triangular pieces.<br />Hope you could follow along with my instructions for this pretty easy <b>Burlap S'mores Banner</b>. If you have any questions feel free to ask.<br /> Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-66617026209605562782013-01-17T19:47:00.002-05:002013-08-04T16:21:36.830-04:00Tip for Another Mason Jar UseI had another brilliant idea today for <i><b>Another Mason Jar Use</b></i>.<br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y8A4xJ6Jx5Q/UPiVz0BaYqI/AAAAAAAAKXQ/BydgtuJ_jfw/s1600/IMG_20130117_184543.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y8A4xJ6Jx5Q/UPiVz0BaYqI/AAAAAAAAKXQ/BydgtuJ_jfw/s1600/IMG_20130117_184543.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Above:See all the junk on the rim and lid. </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr></tbody></table>I had a half quart of paint and was having problems with getting the lid on cause of all the junk on the lid rim.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yNpKPke-8MM/UPiZYqhjjOI/AAAAAAAAKXc/Cp71SW-qL40/s1600/IMG_20130117_184712.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yNpKPke-8MM/UPiZYqhjjOI/AAAAAAAAKXc/Cp71SW-qL40/s1600/IMG_20130117_184712.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>So I poured it in a mason jar. I also labeled the lid so everyone would know what is in the mason jar.<br /><br />Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-65798093434880383172013-01-17T04:25:00.000-05:002013-08-04T16:21:36.826-04:00Chalkboard Spray Paint <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><b>Chalkboard Spray Paint </b>by Krylon my new way to recycle some of the things I have around here that I was not really using anymore. And of course finding new things to use the chalkboard paint on to give it an extra use. <br />I got one of the ideas from <a href="http://www.simplicityinthesouth.com/2012/12/chalkboard-clipboard-teachers-gift.html" target="_blank">Simplicity in the south</a>. She made a chalkboard gift for a teacher using a clipboard. I like the saying she put on the chalkboard and the technique she used for adding the words. She used Krylon flat paint with primer for her project whereas I used the Krylon Chalkboard Spray Paint. She has many other DIY Projects on her site that I'm sure you will love.<br />I grab myself an old cookie sheet type pan. Sprayed it with 3 coats of the chalkboard paint let each coat dry completely. Then I printed out my Things to Remember saying to the size I wanted, taking a piece of chalk on its side and rubbing the back of my paper so I could use it to transfer my letters to the dried chalkboard that was just created. Next took a pencil or pen and went over the letters transferring them to my chalkboard. Now grab a paint pen in white and fill in those words. Me being left handed I started from the right working backwards to paint my letters so my hand would rub in the wet letters. Anyone remember that being told to you as a child? I do. <br />This morning I don't even know why but I started thinking about that saying. And thinking to myself why would anyone ever teach me such a thing when it is so untrue. Maybe I started thinking about it because I've had a lot of verbal abuse in my life and think about the damage it has done to me. Low self-esteem, poor body image, many more issues but not going to get into that. From the time I was a child clear up until now being in my forties I still deal with verbal abuse and the repercussions it has caused on me mentally. I remember teaching my own kids that saying and thinking now I never should have taught them such a saying that is so untrue. For me I would rather be physically abused as those wounds heal much faster than the verbal abuse. Not that I want any abuse but just saying if I had the choice it would be sticks and stones not words. As words cause lasting much worse damage in my opinion.<br />Please do not teach your child that <b>Sticks and Stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you.</b> Instead maybe teach them <b>Sticks and Stones will break your bones but words will always hurt you. </b>Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-62432046598695806112012-11-17T06:22:00.000-05:002013-08-04T16:21:36.824-04:00Easy Kids Christmas Ornament Wreath Craft<div style="text-align: center;">Last night my step son wanted to make a Christmas Ornament with glitter. So I started thinking about different ornament crafts I've seen and remember one about using buttons. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I got out some buttons, thin wire, the Mod Podge (of course I had to use this, one of my favorite craft supplies), the glitter (red and green), some cording or use whatever you want to use to hang your ornament.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4levgqYMWUU/UKdypJfe7uI/AAAAAAAAKPQ/MvoZJOcMRB0/s1600/buttonwreath.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4levgqYMWUU/UKdypJfe7uI/AAAAAAAAKPQ/MvoZJOcMRB0/s1600/buttonwreath.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">String the buttons on the wire, make into shape of wreath, tie off by twisting the wire where the two ends meet. He then put Mod Podge all over the buttons. Oh yeah we used two bigger buttons at the top for glitter a different color. See the photo for difference. He only applied the Mod Podge to the smaller buttons first. Then out came green glitter and he started shaking away all over those buttons. Let dry. Reapply where needed. then he applied the glue to the larger buttons and got out the red glitter. </div><div style="text-align: center;">After it was all dry husband then sprayed it with a sealer to help hold the glitter on just in case. Then we added the cording some leave things we had but you could put whatever you wanted on to decorate it.</div><div style="text-align: center;">There you have it an <i><b>Easy Kids Christmas Ornament Wreath Craft</b></i>.</div>Eileen Hugheshttps://plus.google.com/116647361874061517512noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5779465274726477043.post-14139642149523464172012-09-27T12:50:00.000-04:002013-08-04T16:21:36.788-04:00Hand Painted Coffee Mug<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Thought I'd share my new Hand Painted Coffee Mug that I whipped up in less than 5min.<br />Okay so I go to the Dollar General Store last week and pick up myself a coffee mug for $0.37 on clearance.
